Intel officially announces the Granite Rapids-D Xeon processor, with plans to officially launch it next year

In addition to the telecommunications industry, Intel Xeon D processors are also widely used in edge application fields. At present, the latest product is the D-1800/2800 series launched at the end of last year, which adopts the "Ice Lake-D Refresh" architecture and has a maximum number of 10/22 cores.

Intel stated that the Granite Rapids-D Xeon processor, which uses the latest generation P-core, is currently in the chip sampling stage and is expected to further reduce the cost and power consumption of vRAN (Virtual Wireless Access Network). This future processor will be equipped with improved Intel AVX for vRAN technology and integrate technologies such as Intel vRAN Boost acceleration to significantly improve performance and energy efficiency.

In addition, according to various press releases, Samsung and Ericsson respectively completed the first call of vRAN based on Granite Rapids-D processors in the laboratory.

Sources Yuuki AnS have revealed that the Granite Rapids-D Xeon processor will include two variants: one will use a Granite Rapids-LCC computing chip paired with one I/O chip, supporting 4-channel memory; Another approach will use Granite Rapids HCC computing chips with 2 I/O chips, supporting 8-channel memory.
