Brand Introduction

Samsung Group was founded in 1938 by Li Bingzhe and is a family owned enterprise. The Li family has a hereditary tradition, and all Samsung industries under the group are family owned and managed by other members of the family.

Its subsidiaries include Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDI, Samsung SDS, Samsung Electric, Samsung Corning, Samsung Network, Samsung Fire, Samsung Securities, Samsung Products, Samsung Heavy Industry, Samsung Engineering, Samsung Aviation, and Samsung Life. They are managed by members of the Li family, and three of their subsidiaries have been selected as Fortune Global 500 companies in the United States. Samsung Electronics is the largest subsidiary under its umbrella. In 2009, Samsung Electronics ranked 40th among the Fortune Global 500 companies, 50th among the most respected companies in the world, and 19th in terms of brand value. This is a progress of two places compared to 2008. In 2011, the global corporate market value was $150 billion.

On November 4, 2016, Samsung Electronics USA announced that it would voluntarily recall 2.8 million specific models of top opening washing machines.

In the second quarter of 2018, Samsung shipped 8 million mobile phones in India, with a market share of 23%, ranking second only to Xiaomi.

On October 14, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang stated during his visit to Samsung (China) Semiconductor Co., Ltd. in Xi'an that the wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics established in China has completed a cumulative investment of 10.87 billion US dollars, and the second phase of the project is currently underway, with an estimated total investment of 15 billion US dollars.

In April 2020, Samsung announced its withdrawal from the LCD panel market and closed all its LCD panel production lines in South Korea and China at the end of 2020.

In 2022, Samsung Electronics made a profit of approximately 43.3766 trillion Korean won.

Samsung in China

Among more than 30 companies under Samsung, 23 have invested in China, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDI, Samsung SDS, Samsung Electric, Samsung Corning, Samsung Life, Samsung Fire, Samsung Securities, Samsung Products, etc.

China's Samsung has established 155 institutions in China, employing over 102000 employees in various fields such as electronics, finance, trade, heavy industry, construction, chemical, clothing, woolen textiles, advertising, etc.

Electronics is the largest business segment of Samsung in China. China Samsung Electronics has established dozens of production and sales departments in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Chengdu, Shandong, Hainan, Liaoning, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other regions, mainly producing semiconductors, mobile phones, monitors, laptops, televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners, digital cameras, and IT products. In addition, Samsung Electronics in China has established research centers such as Beijing Communication Technology Research Institute, Suzhou Semiconductor Research Institute, Hangzhou Semiconductor Research Institute, Nanjing Electronic R&D Center, and Shanghai Design and Research Institute, actively promoting the localization of production, procurement, and sales.

Since 1999, Samsung has donated $10 million annually for five consecutive years to help and care for the impoverished population in society.

Samsung Life Insurance also donated $10 million over three years (2002-2004) to treat patients with diseases such as cancer, cerebral hemorrhage, and myocardial infarction.

In the 2008 Sichuan earthquake and the 2010 Yushu earthquake in Qinghai, donations of 30 million yuan (including a total of 34.71 million yuan raised by employees) and 10 million yuan were made respectively. Ten Samsung Boai schools were built in Sichuan Province, and a new Red Cross village (76 households) was established in Yushu.

In April 2013, China's Samsung won the honor of "Most Caring Donation Enterprise" at the 8th China Charity Award for its outstanding performance in public welfare and charity in 2012.

On September 20, 2018, China's Samsung Smart Classroom+Smart Teacher Training Program won the third "CSR China Education Award" and the Best Social Contribution Award in 2018.
