Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger expects that the P-series Xeon processors will continue to dominate the enterprise market in the next one to two years

At this meeting, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger updated on the development progress of the upcoming Sierra Forest (using energy efficiency cores, abbreviated as E-cores) and Granite Rapids (using performance cores, abbreviated as P-cores) two new Xeon processors, and shared his insights on the future trends of the server processor market.

Kissinger revealed that Intel has provided customers with the final version sample of Sierra Forest; For Granite Rapids, the production progress of the processor is ahead of schedule, and power validation testing has begun, and everything is going smoothly.

Regarding the expected performance of these two Xeon processors in the market, Kissinger predicts that many companies will continue to adopt Xeon processors with P-cores as their design core in the next one to two years. As for the Sierra Forest designed with an E-core, he believes that this processor is not as good as Granite Rapids in terms of performance and functional support, but is more suitable for the mainstream cloud server market that focuses on total cost of ownership (TCO).

Regarding Intel's second-generation energy-efficient E-core Xeon processor Clearwater Forest, Kissinger stated that this product, which uses Intel 18A process technology, has begun production at wafer fabs.

According to Intel's previous plan, the Sierra Forest Xeon scalable processor based on the E-core design is scheduled to be launched in the first half of this year, while the Granite Rapids Xeon processor based on the P-core design will be released shortly thereafter.
